Sales tax and VAT¶
Tax rules tell Klipspringer how much tax to charge. At checkout, Klipspringer selects the rule that matches the attendee's location and adds the tax to the order.
Warning
Klipspringer helps you collect and report tax. Nothing in this documentation constitutes legal or accounting advice. You are always responsible for how you collect and remit taxes.
Settings¶
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | A label which describes what the tax is for (e.g., "Sales Tax") |
| Rate type | A percentage or a fixed amount. |
| Basis | "Net" adds the tax on top of the price, while "Gross" means the price already includes the tax, so it won't update the total. |
| Applies to | Changes who the tax is applied to, which can be everyone, just EU countries, or just one country. |
| Priority | When several rules match, the rule with the highest priority applies. |
For example, to add 8% sales tax on top of every ticket price, create a percentage rule at 8% with a Net basis that applies to everyone.
Calculation¶
Klipspringer subtracts all discounts and promotional codes first, then calculates tax on the rest of the total. Checkout will show the tax before the attendee pays. When the order completes, Klipspringer saves the tax rate on top of it. Changing the rule later won't affect existing orders.
